What can I say… Aumakua Kava Lounge in Paia, Maui, has stolen my heart on more than one occasion. Tiki decor, woman-owned, fabulous drinks!

And okay, technically it’s a beverage-focused restaurant that offers some snacks and noms, but it’s focus is definitely on its liquid offerings.
Like any fantastic bar, they make amazing cocktails — but theirs are mocktails filled with fresh juices and kava, rather than liquor. And they are REALLY YUMMY.

The kava bar typically has three strains of kava on tap which you can drink straight from half of a coconut shell. I personally enjoy starting with a double shell of their uplifting kava, followed by my #1 favorite kava mocktail they offer, which is the Category 5 Hurricane. And I like to add Spirulina to my drink. Then before I head home, I’ll get a single or double shell of the relaxing kava.

It’s a good spot for Paia nightlife as well – they host open mics, musicians, bands, singer-songwriters, poets, chess tournaments, etc.
If you decide to visit, be sure to tell them you heard about them from the Maui Dining Guide website!
